The Travel Channel's "Ghost Adventures," has explored the infamous castle.
St. Augustine is America's oldest city, dating back to 1565. The main attraction to this city is the historic stone Fort. Fort St. Augustine was constructed in the Seventeenth Century with construction starting in 1672. The city was once a Spanish settlement.
The fort is the main attraction for many paranormal investigations. Reports of everything from ghostly soldieries to Native Americans that aren't resting in peace have surfaced through the centuries. Much of the activity is reported to occur in the dungeons below the fort, where much torture and cruelty was enacted upon prisoners.
Many televised programs have followed investigations of this fort. The formal name was changed in 1942. Due to the Spanish heritage of the city, and the "castle," the fort became known as the Castillo de San Marcos.
