Review: Premonition (2007)

"Premonition," does what a good horror movie should. It takes standard characters completely out of their element and in a good way. Sandra Bullock ( Divine Secrets of the Ya-ya Sisterhood, Miss Congeniality ), takes a shocking turn for this film. Her character, Linda, is nothing like the roles viewers are accustomed to seeing Bullock perform in. Much like the surprising abilities of Halle Berry and Penelope Cruz in "Gothika," Bullock gives an appropriately dramatic and believable performance as a grieving widow.

Linda receives the news of her husband's unexpected accident. She follows through a realistic grieving process and goes to sleep that night preparing to make arrangements.

She wakes the next morning to find him alive and well, and the week has started over.

The entire week continues to arrive in chaotic and disturbing flashes that ultimately leave her institutionalized. But, that is far from the end.

The story develops well and brings in fascinating glimpses at the occurrence of premonitions in a non-fictionalized setting.

Overall, this movie is a good one. The only complaint is the story needed a little further developing and fleshing out. It would've really been excellent to see more of the historical material regarding such episodes as she experienced.

Ghoulish Details:

Viewers should pay attention to this film when they watch it. It is created in a way that will confuse the viewer, just as Bullock's character, if you lose track of the days.

Aside from these minor issues, it is a great story and worth watching just to see Bullock's transformation throughout the movie.

Ghoulish Rating: 4 (out of 6)
