Review: Half-Light (2005)
Demi Moore stars in this movie. Her character, Rachel Carlson, has everything. A fabulous life of wealth and success, a beautiful son, and every book she writes seems to be an instant bestseller. However, her contentment and joy are lost following the sudden and tragic drowning of her son.
Unable to write or cope with life following his death, she falls into a deep depression. Her best friend finds her an isolated cabin on the coast in Scotland where Rachel can heal and come to terms with the loss. She hopes to start writing again.
She loves the countryside and befriends several of her neighbors, including Hans Matheson, who portrays Angus McCullough.
Things were never right after her sons death. She saw and heard many things she assumed were the products of grieving. She finds the move to the isolated area only intensified the events and her son's appearances grow more malevolent.
She begins a relationship with Angus only to find things are not what they seem. Those around her doubted her sanity when she decided to go to the cabin and she starts doubting it herself when all the events unfold.
Rachel finds herself in a mystery like she has never imagined. Suddenly, friends become the enemies and she can't escape her son, or the spiraling situation.
Ghoulish Details:
While the elements of mystery are strong in this movie, there is no denying the supernatural aspects that begin early on. While there are human villain(s) attempting to hurt Rachel, supernatural events continually interfere with their intentions and ultimately decide the outcome of the story.
Ghoulish Rating: 5 (out of 6)
