From Horror Novels

E-mail Print PDF

There are often comments that the horror film industry should look towards more books to create movies. That is true. Horror novels aren't often known for the transition to film unless it's a "mega-author." The fact is, horror novels have been the basis of far more movies than are discussed. Authors have been doing this for decades, but few get attention for it. Here is a growing list of those movies that have stemmed from the written word. They are organized by decade and year.

For those visionaries who have already done so, we applaud them for their work. Here is a list of movies created from horror novels listed by decade.

Here is an ever-growing list of horror video games that originated as written novels and stories. Video games can also inspire movies and those will be listed here, too. This is a project of interest here at the House and we hope to someday build the largest resource online for this content.

For a different twist, here are some games that became horror movies. This feature will arrive soon, but for now, here are some commonly known:

  • Resident Evil
  • Silent Hill
