Horror is one of the most fascinating genres in fiction. It is full of complete chaos, fantastic experiences, and pure fear. The Virginia Creeper web site wants to keep horror that way.
There are many subgenres that appear to want to "control" the horror genre. Sadly, these often reinforce negative assumptions and stereotypes already against horror. We want o encourage horror professionals to remain true to the genre and avoid chasing temporary trends and passing fads. Do new developments bring about progress? Of course. For that individual. The hundreds of copycats and ripoffs do not.
The numbers of more pure works in horror seem to diminish as time passes. Yet, the majority of hardcore horror fans don't cite any of these modern creations as stellar, or even decent, examples of what the genre has to offer. Part of this seems to be a lack of originality with those who have the means to produce horror. Also, a severe lack of respect for the horror audience.
When horror originated there was no such thing as the "young male demography." This misplaced audience does not define the majority of horror audiences. This slanted approach to the genre has made it nearly impossible for respectable or brilliant work to obtain an entirely objective reception.
We hope to clarify the genre and improve it's current reception through the emphasis of quality material and encouraging artists who might otherwise be overshadowed by mere trends.
